This red spruce and sugar maple violin goes to a red-hot bluegrass fiddler in Johnson City, TN. While I was repairing her old violin, she played one of mine and decided she didn't like her old one quite so much.

Construction Photos

The plates are joined with hot hide glue, and the rib garland is built around an external form.

The top is shaped and graduated, and the bass bar is glued in. The top is glued to the ribs.

The neck is first roughly shaped, then refined with chisels and gouges. The instrument is assembled, given a coat of gamboge sealer, then finished with oil varnish.
