This "Civil War" open-back banjo features a Confederate soldier on the headstock, a bugle fifth-fret marker, and a Union officer neck inlay. The neck has a walnut backplate and "tongue." A great-looking and -sounding instrument, and another impressive Gerry Snelson design. To hear a Skipper banjo, visit our Audio Video page.

Construction Photos

This came from the days when I was taking very few daily photos, but here's what I have. The neck is blanked out, fitted with a "through stick" to the rim, the truss rod is installed, and the inlay completed. Notice on the bugle what a nice effect the careful selection of shading in the mother of pearl can produce.

Thanks for watching this project
